I am a 54-year-old Hispanic male born in Duitama, a small town in Colombia. At the age of 14, I migrated to the United States in 1984, where I began my journey in Miami as a high school student. I graduated from North Miami Senior High and later attended Miami Dade College, where I earned an Associate in Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Throughout my high school and college years, I gained invaluable life experience through various jobs, working at Publix Supermarket, Benihana Restaurant, and as a valet parking attendant. These roles taught me the value of hard work and responsibility, lessons that would serve me well in my future career.
After earning my degree, I was hired by Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, where I completed my laboratory rotation. My dedication and strong work ethic quickly led to my promotion as Supervisor of the afternoon laboratory shift, a role I held for over nine years. Following the events of 9/11, I pivoted my career toward clinical research, taking on a position as Clinical Research Coordinator at a private company in Miami, owned by a Bahamian entrepreneur. There, I gained extensive experience in clinical trials and research management, ultimately becoming the Clinical Manager of the company after two years.
In 2007, after ten years in the clinical research field, I partnered with a well-known psychiatrist to found my own clinical research practice, specializing in psychiatry clinical trials. This venture allowed me to combine my expertise in research with my entrepreneurial spirit, laying the foundation for future success.
